Review – The Gladstone Yacht Club (Queensland)
I spent the afternoon looking out over the river and towards the islands. Bliss
Located at the river end of the main drag in Gladstone (Goondoon St), this club is perfectly located to enjoy the breeze from the ocean up the river. Catering for any and all, the Yacht Club ticks the boxes to be a “go to” location, no matter your dining or drinking need.
I was there for about 5 hours hours on a Saturday and saw very distinct types of clients. We had the hi-vis group, there shortly after opening, possibily their post shift drinks and eating burgers and “bar food” inside by the bar. Then there was a “date crowd,” couples and small groups of friends (no kids), who sat outside with me on the covered balcony - predominately ordering from the restaurant menu. Finally between 1.30pm and 2.00pm the families arrived - with the parents eating from the restaurant menu and the kids from the bar menu. I can easily see this as a fantastic venue for drinks and dinner as well.
Pluses:
Great location.
Caters to all.
Good choice of food.
Decent price.
Food was good quality.
LOVED the salt and pepper squid on pineapple salsa!
Minuses:
Wine list was lacking.
Garlic Prawns were over cooked.
Garlic Bread was over cooked.
Asked for a good space between entre and main - twice - yet it came out within 20 mins.
I had a lovely day - a day away from real life, work, and first world problems. Nothing like sitting on a balcony on a perfect day, drinking wine, eating good food and relaxing. I would certainly visit again if in town. It wasn’t awesome, but location and lack of choice make up for a lot.
